Euro-MP Robert Sturdy will visit Great Yarmouth on Wednesday, 23 January and meet Barry Coleman, leader of the Borough Council, to discuss the downgraded dualling of the A47 across the county.
Mr Sturdy was disappointed to discover that the European Commission had removed the A47 from the main transEuropean Network of major routes linking key economic towns and cities because the British government was not expected to upgrade it before 2020.
Mr Coleman said he welcomed Mr Sturdy’s visit:
“The A47 is the main line of communication from Norfolk to the Midlands and the north of England. Many millions of pounds have been invested in the borough, both locally and nationally and there is a real appetite by private companies to develop there businesses here. The failure of the government to take seriously the upgrading of the A47 is hampering the council’s strategy for job creation.”
