September 28, 2006: Robert Sturdy supports new security measures at Stansted Airport
Robert Sturdy MEP expressed support at the new security measures introduced at Stansted Airport following the latest terrorist threat after paying a fact-finding visit there yesterday.
He was shown the additional X-ray security systems and, as a regular user of Stansted Airport, said he found it greatly reassuring.
He said: “The safety of passengers is uppermost in everyone’s mind, but they have to accept there will be a certain amount of inconvenience. New X-ray machines have been added and one in three passengers are stopped and thoroughly checked.
“I found it very reassuring to observe the additional security measures being taken to ensure passenger safety. It is essential that we continue to be vigilant. I certainly feel I am in good hands and was impressed with what I saw.”
