Tony Blair seems determined to force a new European Union Treaty on us without holding a referendum. Knowing it will lack support he refuses to let us know what it contains and continue to ignore public opinion.
In recent statements Tony Blair managed to completely contradict himself.
In almost the same breath as advocating his desire to 'represent the people' he goes on to say that he will not be holding this discussion in public but in secret. In what way is this in the publics' interest?!
If Blair's' budget negotiation skills are anything to go by then we can only expect considerable sacrifices to be made by the UK to the benefit of our European counterparts.
Reform is needed but with focus on good governance, less regulation and greater intergovernmental cooperation.
By disregarding the democratic rights of the British people, in pursuit of his own political agenda, he is doing nothing to reduce the ever growing public apathy towards politics.
The government must hold discussions in public to allow us, the voters, to make up our own minds on the future of the UK in Europe.
I strongly urge people to write to the Prime Minister and call for a referendum to be held on this treaty. Otherwise the risk is that Mr. Blair will try and slip it in through the back door; while we remain in the dark as to the basic outline of the agreement which will be presented at the EU summit in June.
If other countries decide to allow their citizens to vote on this, how can Mr. Blair justify denying this opportunity to British people?
